Maybe Fleas?

My flea medication isn't working, does anyone recommend some? I use K9 Advantix. I've tried Revolution it worked okay, but I stilled itched. It's not super bad itching, it's like one scratch every now & then. But Mommy doesn't want me to scratch at all!
Any suggestions?

My mum uses Frontline on us. It works really good for ticks and fleas and mum puts it on my back once a month. You can get it at your doctors office.

Has your Mommy actually seen the fleas, Eduardo? You might just be itching because something itches! We all do that!

Hi Eduardo
We use Sentinel. All dogs love to scratch, are you sure you have fleas?

We use Comfortis, which is relatively new. Muzzer doesn't like some of the possible side effects, but we haven't had any problems so far. We had to change when we moved here from Azrizona.

Is your mom sure it's fleas??? Maybe your allergic to something. Do you eat a lot of grain based foods? HAve you been playing in the grass? Your mommy might want to give you a children's benadryl or children's claritan...that's what I take.

K-9 Advantix is the best one for little guys - Advantag, Revolution and Sentinel are not good for my liver. You might ask mommy to add a little garlic powder to your food - be sure she doesn't use REAL garlic cause that's not good for you - but garlic powder [NOT garlic Salt] - Fleas don't like it when your skin smells like garlic.

Those must be some tough fleas if they get through the Advantix!

Hope you stop scratching!

I use Frontline Plus. Tried Advantix once, but had a very bad reaction. Good luck finding something that works for you. Woof, Tank

Perhaps its not really fleas. You may have allergies and are itching from it. Not uncommon this time of year. Also, lawn services have been treating the grassy areas again. Be extra careful where you walk.

Hi, Eduardo...

My Vet gives me Advantage...And, I get it from PetMeds, too...

It works great for me...And, when I get itchy...I get itchy...

Hi Eduardo! Sorry you are itching so much. I use Advantage, cause we have that foul furry thing, ya know, and "it" can't handle living with me having AdvanTIX on me (poison to cats in Sam's dose), but I do okay with it. Ma and Dad just have to scour me for ticks with their paws! (Thanks for the pawsome work! Love, love, love it!)

I used Sentinel for years, but then I had a reaction, so now I get Revolution. Is it really fleas or are you itchy from maybe an allergy or something? My big sister was super allergic in the spring. She'd get super itchy and her lips would get all scabby and gross. Mom changed us (slowly) over to a different food, too (Wellness kibble - fewer icky allergen things in it). We also got Fresh Factors supplements from springtimeinc DOT com.

Oh, yeah, and Mom says that if it's fleas and your house isn't treated, too, they come back. She learned that the hard way. She washed all of our beds and blankies in hot water. She also vacuumed everything (floors and furniture) every day (changing the bag every day) for about a week. The v-e-t gave her some flea killing stuff to spray around the house, but she didn't use it b/c it was so toxic.

Good luck, dude! I hope you feel better soon. Itchies are horrible. :(

Your pal,
Titus

Flea Busters! my mommy used them when she had 2 dogs and a bobcat. it is completely NON-toxic, and is guaranteed for one year! Even better though, it kept the fleas away for 3 years without having to have the company come back out!

We SWEAR by it!

I take Sentinel once a month, Eduardo, and so far it has kept the fleas away.

It is probably not fleas but allergies. Maybe you are allergic to Humans! Ha ha! I myself am allergic to grass, which really sucks.

Mom got me shampoo and conditioner from the vet that has cortisone in it. She bathes me every couple of weeks. It feels GREAT. And stops my itches.

Then she dilutes the conditioner with water in a spray bottle and spritzes me every day. It really helps. I don't itch anymore.

Could it be dry skin too?

Darn fles. come knockn at the door, like that commercial. holdn a pizza.

I use Advantix Eduardo. I itch alot too, but it isn't fleas....its skin allergies. Are you sure it is fleas? Have you had them before? If so, make sure your mommy bombed your house or they will stick around forever! I've never had them but mommy knows people that have, and its not fun! Advantix is supposed to be the best for us....I use that with Heartguard!

Are you sure it's just fleas? My mom said don't overdo flea meds because too much can make you sicky. Advantix and Frontline work too. And revolution is good. Has your mom tried benedryl on you? My mom is a vet tech and is wondering if you might have allergies - tis the season. Some dogs get flea bite allergies too which are really itchy.
Ike

Emily and Ike said...

Oh, and if it's not fleas, vets will usually start with a food allergy trial where you are given a specific food - either something hypoallergenic or novel protein - like rabbit - and you have to eat that exclusively with no treats! to see if the itching stops. Otherwise try some benedryl first. You should be able to find a dose online for your weight. It will make you sleepy, but that's ok, right?

Maybe its an allergy ... we get the scratches all the time us Dog Woods Pack particulary us Bassets something about dampness and folds of our skin ... our Chief uses frontline to keep them nasty fleas at bay ...

Lorenza said...

Hi, Eduardo!
We only have Frontline here. My mom put it on my back once but it made me really sleepy.
Like our friends said... maybe your itchy is due to dry skin or allergies.
I scratch myself only when my mom did not rinse me well when I get a bath.
I hope you find what is causing your itches!

I sympathize with your itches, Eduardo, but I have no advice, except to have you checked out for allergies.

Florida is hot year round so you can imagine the bug problems we have ... they even pellet for fleas and ticks at the dog park. I hate to "poison" her, but Madison is on Comfortis (as are most of the dogs here) for internal control of fleas. Fleas mean worms. YICKY. But it might be something else so have your vet check you for allergies.

River said...

My mom writes historical romance and always includes dogs--so she had to do research on what people did to get rid of fleas. Cedar is an excellent repellent. Cedar chips in bedding. Cedar oil drops on a cloth. Lots of dogs are allergic to flea bites--just one will cause a reaction. You might look into something like benedryl for doggies--benedryl is okay for dogs but there is another kind (called atopica or something like that). My mom uses Frontline if fleas show up but we've been flea free for a couple years (we live in a pine woods so maybe that helps). Good luck!

We use Frontline too and we have never had fleas - knock on wood. Are you sure you have fleas and not just dry skin or an allergy to something? Try adding some oil to your food to see if that helps.

Are you sure its fleas? I use the same stuff and I have never had a flea. Maybe just dry skin? Mom gets me a conditioning rinse at the spa to help with my dry skin. Hope it gets better. =)

My mom use to use Comfortis (which worked but was sooo expensive) then she tried Advantix and it didn't work as good, then she tried Frontline and that works great for us!
Paris itches a lot, but it's because she has allergies. Mom has been researching new kibble for us.

Zeke and I use Frontline. We've also used Advantix and didn't notice any difference. (By the way, Samantha's blog looks great!)

Hi Eduardo!
I use Advantage Multi. It stops fleas and heartworms and tick and other things I think. That's the one my vet said would be best for me! Good luck with whatever you choose I hope those yucky fleas go away soon!

I get really itchy and bitey too! Apparently the V-E-T said I had a skin allergy or irritation. She gave me a special leave in conditioner to stop the itching and it worked! Now I just itch sometimes cause well... I got an itch! Ask your mom how many times she scratches her nose! BOL

I sure hope we can be furiends!
